Want to Develop a New Wordpress Plugin?

By Van Wystan

A great Wordpress plugin must have the following features and characteristics to make it ideal for implementation by the Wordpress administrator.

Easy and error free Installation: Installation is the most important process in implementing a plugin. It is very much necessary to have a good installer with the plugin to make sure that the users do not face any problems with the installation process. Many users tend to neglect software because of the installation and integration process. The Worldpress system is a bit rigid too, so it is important to have a good installer.

Straightforward un-installation process: Un-installation is as important thing for a plugin as the installation process. Un-installation gives the administrator the power to decide when to remove the plugin when it has no more function to perform, no administrator would want a plugin that cannot be removed and remain there forever.

Seamless and secure upgrade: Good software and plugins must be able to upgrade without any trouble. This would make sure that the software is error free and is evolving. This is very important in the case of plugins because these are small software components that perform a specific task, if one of these go down then the whole feature goes down.

Language support: Good plugins always has options for other languages apart from English. Localization of a plugin is an important thing. People from many demographics use the Wordpress software as Content Management System and Blogging system. A language is very important in both cases because not all end-users would know English and it is the duty of the administrator to make sure that the content is readable by most users.

User Understandable errors: A good plugin must throw exceptions and errors that are understood by the end user to rectify and correct it if possible. Errors can be a very big problem if it is untraceable. There must be a system by which the administrator should be able to contact the developer to get all the details without actually getting confused or giving misinformation.

Import and Export options: There has to be an import and export option for any software plugin like the ones in Worldpress, this would enable the administrator while porting the whole system to someplace else or while changing the back end.

Great looking user interface: A good user interface is very important to make sure that the administrator is able to understand and work in the plugin.

Security of the Plugins: A great plugin should not be vulnerability in the system.

Keeping the records of the changes made: A good change log is necessary to keep track of changes.

Good documentation and support: A good documentation is necessary to make the administrator understand the plugin well.

A great Wordpress plugin must have all this and a few more features.
